Eric Lefkofsky believes Chicago Can be A Tech Hub

Eric Lefkofsky, the founder and CEO of Tempus, spoke recently at the Chicago INNO “Start-ups to Watch” event. Among his talking points, he discussed the fast growth of Tempus, which focuses on precision medicine and the use of AI (artificial intelligence), and how the pandemic demanded a shift in the start-up to focus on COVID-19 testing. Eric Lefkofsky also talked about the city Chicago itself and how it lags behind other major cities in regards to discovering new technologies.

Eric Lefkofsky attributes this technical lag to the city’s unwillingness to embrace new technology, or get behind those who want to “innovate.” He believes, as said as much, that Chicago has everything in place to become a top-tier hub for technological innovation, it’s simply not in the city’s DNA. Eric Lefkofsky described the city as more “hot dogs and Mcdonalds,” and this more traditional way of thinking hampers the city’s ability to welcome new ideas and innovation.

Successful businessman and entrepreneur Eric Lefkofsky stated that the onus is on the city’s leaders to come to the forefront on making Chicago a tech hub. Because of their visibility in the public’s eye, Chicago’s leadership can influence and increase the Public’s perceived importance of technological advancement and innovation. According to Eric Lefkofsky, his own start-up, Tempus is focused on “bringing Ai to healthcare,” by focusing on AI-enabled or intelligent diagnostics. The goal is to get diagnostics to the point where every patient will be routed to the treatment that best serves that patient.
