Eric Paul Lefkofsky is an American businessman who is also famous for his philanthropy including the Lefkofsky Family Foundation that was established in 2006 with his wife in 2006. Lefkofsky founded Tempus in 2015 as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) health firm. The company that has its headquarters in Chicago is currently valued at $5 billion. Since its foundation, the company has already raised $620 million in financing with the coming on board of investors such as Franklin Templeton, Baillie, T. Rowe Price, and NEA. Based on machine learning, artificial intelligence, and next-generation sequencing, the company collects, structures, and evaluates clinical information from the electronic EMC to facilitate specific treatment options for patients.

Through the TIME trial program, Tempus uses real-time molecular and clinical data to match patients to trials as well as facilitate the treatment process. According to Lefkofsky, the goal of the company is to customize treatment options for patients. The firm has since grown its coverage for patients, oncologists (over 5,000), hospital systems, and about 80 percent of all academic medical centers. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Tempus secured $100 million in response to the current situation. In its COVID-19 research, the company aggregated 50,000 positive patients to suggest best-treatment options. With a little over 700 employees, the company seeks to expand its reach into other chronic diseases such as diabetes and depression.
