Asot Michael

Asot Michael is a known political leader in the Antiguan community. Michael’s main aim is to better the lives of all the residents, which he achieves by being fully involved with the social and political activities of the area. Currently, Asot Michael is the Member of Parliament in Barbuda and Antiqua, and he is an active member of the Barbuda Labor Party. Asot Michael was born in 1969 in Guadeloupe, French West Indies. Asot family was actively involved in politics by the time Michael was being born. Asot is always proud of his grandfather who he is named after for being the pillar of the Antigua & Barbuda labor party. When the party was going through rough times financially in the 1970s Michael’s grandfather had to sacrifice his own business to ensure that it continued to survive. It was not only his grandfather who was actively involved with the political affairs of the Antiguan community but also the generation before him such as Mitchell, and Maurice by transforming the social and economic conditions of the society.

Asot Michael attended his secondary education from 1982 to 1986 at St Joseph Academy and St Johns Antigua. Asot later went to Barry University where he graduated with honors in Business Administration and majored in Economics and finance and graduated with honors in 1989. Asot was among one of the international students in American University and colleges to get an award for high Scholastic achievement. The Delta Mu Delta Nationals also recognized Asot for being one of the best in Business Administrations. In 1995 Michael went back to his home area to work in the public service office as the special Administrative assistance to Honorable Lester Bryant Bird who was the Prime minister by then. Michael’s skills and determination with his work earned him a rise in his work roles, and he was selected to serve as the Chief of staff in the same office of the prime minister.  From 2001 to 2003 Michael was sworn in to be responsible for public works, Insurance, energy and communication. Even though Michael’s leadership roles were growing rapidly, we remained dedicated to innovating on all affairs of Antigua and Barbuda people. Having come from an entrepreneurial background, he was able to be very passionate and dedicated to the small businesses in Antigua. During his leadership, tremendous growth has been reported predominantly in the local commerce, and tourism.
