An Introduction to Utility Warehouse, the UK’s Only Multiservice Provider

Colindale, North London based Utility Warehouse (UW) is a subsidiary of Telecom Plus. UW provides business and residential customers with landline and mobile telecommunication services.

  • Broadband
  • Electricity
  • Gas
  • Homeowner’s insurance

UW offers the convenience of a single bill for all of the above services. Since the company’s establishment, Utility Warehouse has become Telecom Plus’ most profitable division.

Utility Warehouse does not utilize traditional marketing strategies to attract customers. The company uses a network of independent distributors to recruit new clients. The cost of becoming a UW distributor is 100 pounds. UW customers who wish to become distributors pay £50. The more users a distributor signs-up, the more the distributor earns. UW reports that distributors’ average earnings for the year 2019 were 614 pounds.

The Which? Survey

“Which?” is the United Kingdom’s equivalent of “Consumers Reports.” A product evaluating and rating service, “Which?” conducts an annual consumer satisfaction survey. Respondents to the 2018 questionnaire gave Utility Warehouse a 77% satisfaction rating. That same year for its customer service and value for the price, UW was named “Which? Utilities Brand of The Year.”

Largest Independent Energy Company

Four years after its founding, Utility Warehouse contracted with NPower to have Npower supply UW customers with gas and electricity. As part of the agreement, NPower acquired the Utility Warehouse subsidiaries Gas Plus and Electricity Plus. The reacquiring of its former subsidiaries made UW the UK’s largest independent energy supplier.

The UW Foundation

Through its foundation, Utility Warehouse supports environmental and humanitarian causes. UW has committed to ridding oceans of plastic and promoting renewable energy. Each time a customer purchases all of UW’s services, the company plants a tree in the consumer’s name.
