Boris Ivanov’s Career Development in the Private Sector: From Gazprom Employee to GPB Global Resources Director

Ivanov founded GPB Global, a company with interests in the global oil industry. He has grown this oil production company internationally, with several South America and Africa offices.

Boris Ivanov holds an international relations degree. He started his career in civil service, the USSR Foreign Affairs Ministry. The USSR government posted Ivanov to the USA (as a diplomat) a decade later.

When the USSR collapsed, he quit his civil servant job and ventured into entrepreneurship. Boris Ivanov worked as an oil consultant for new businesses before getting a banking job in Moscow, where he spearheaded project financing in the oil and gas sector.

Ivanov moved to Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (R.S. K MiG) and achieved excellent business returns. He went back to the oil business in 2004 as an advisor of Gazprombank’s chairperson.

He was in charge of creating strategies that would help Gazprom expand into international markets.

By 2007, Ivanov was the Director-General of Gazprom, a Dutch-affiliated oil exploration company. In 2011, Boris Ivanov attained the managing director of the GPB Global. In 2016, Ivanov purchased the organization’s majority shares during a buyout process. He has led the company in substantial projects in Zambia and Nigeria.

Through GPB Global’s subsidiaries, the company has supported various community initiatives. One of the company’s initiatives undertakings is planting 350 million trees in Ethiopia. The company has also supported food security projects by financing the Gewane small-scale irrigation project.

Boris Ivanov believes in spending his free time with his family and friends. As a successful entrepreneur, he says that he does not accept a ‘no’ or people who say ‘it cannot be done.’
