Dr. Tim Ioannides's new way of healing
On July 3 of 2018 a document was released by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine stating in 2017 Dr. Anna Nicholas, a dermatologist M.D, Ph.D., at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, did a study on two patients using the HPV vaccine to reduce the number of new basal and squamous cell skin cancers. Squamous cell carcinoma was the second most common form of skin cancer at the time. Tim Ioannides MD, MD, a voluntary faculty member at the University of Miami Miller School, felt as though the vaccine should be used as off label treatment directly injected into the tumor. In 2017 Dr.Nicholas took a chance on a 97-year-old patient who had all other choices, such as surgery or radiotherapy, ruled out for dealing with her skin cancer in her leg.
Treatment, once approved, was given 6 times in the course of 11 months. Twice in the patients are and another 4 times directly into the tumors. Each dose was a 9-valent HPV vaccine. After 11 months after the first tumor injection, the patient had no recurrences. It has been over 3 years since that study was done and 2 years since it was published, The patient is getting ready for her 100th birthday which she thanked this study for. The HPV vaccine has shown very promising results for further study and is deemed as reliable off label in the eyes of the patient. This study and document have shown innovative ways of thinking outside the line in medicine to save a life and maybe many more.
