Georgette Mulhier’s Organization, Defend Haiti’s Democracy, could Solve the Crisis in Haiti

Georgette Mulheir observes the current political state in Haiti and how it led to violence. As a result, it has seen the country’s parliament dissolved and a privately funded commission to find an interim President. Haiti’s lack of a democratic structure made it possible for its current president to rule using force in a full dictatorship. Georgette Mulheir founded Defend Haiti’s Democracy, a human rights organization, and has been working in Haiti since 2004 to help the Haitian people. The organization is essential as it could speak for the common people in the fight for their rights.

Defend Haiti’s Democracy Role in Resolving the Country’s Political Crisis

Through Defend Haiti’s Democracy, the country could find solutions to its violent state. For example, it could present alternatives to the current crisis, including mediation between the opposing parties. When there is mediation, supporters of the opposing parties in Haiti may get assurance that their concerns are being respected. Georgette Mulheir has called on the international community for more support. It is possible that with external influence, a quick and lasting solution could put the country back to operation. After studying law and obtaining a diploma in international relations, Georgette had her first experience with humanitarian work when she spent 16 months in Tanzania on an assignment for Save the Children. Later, she moved to Haiti and worked to bring social and political equality.
