Insights on Boris Ivanov, Former Gazprom Head, and His Fast-Rising Exploration Company
Today, Boris Ivanov is one of the top business executives and entrepreneurs in the mineral resources exploration and production industry. Before jumping into entrepreneurship and founding his own exploration and production company, GPB Global Resources, Boris served as the Gazprom Exploration & Production (E&P) International Director-General. Here he was the top executive of one of the largest oil and gas conglomerates in the world.
Rise to glory
This mineral resource exploration and production guru was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. He attended the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), where he graduated with an International Relations degree. Ivanov’s first job was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Soviet Union in Moscow as a diplomat. He was then promoted to work in the Soviet Union embassy in Washington D.C., where he honed his negotiation skills.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Boris Ivanov went on to join the business sector and moved back to Moscow to work at Unibest Bank as the Vice President of Oil and Gas investments. He then moved on to work for MiG Corporation as the Deputy Director-General for Strategy. Boris later became Vice President and Advisor of Gazprombank in 2004. In 2007, he was appointed the CEO and Director General of Gazprom EP International, a position he held till 2011.
Leading GPB Global Resources to success
Boris Ivanov founded GPB Global Resources in 2011 and became its Managing Director. This mineral resource exploration and production company has its headquarters in Amsterdam and focuses its operation in developing markets, especially Africa and North America. It also has some projects in the Middle East.
Africa has been of great interest to the company, and it has found lots of success in the continent. Not long ago, GPB Global Resources discovered massive Uranium deposits in Niger. Currently, the company is planning on its exploration. Moreover, the company signed a Petroleum Production Sharing Agreement with the government of Ethiopia in 2015 after discovering tremendous oil and gas reserves in the country. The success of this fast-rising exploration and production company can be attributed to the competent leadership of Boris Ivanov.
