The UN Food Charity Donations to Ukraine.
Ukraine is at war with itself and has been invaded by Russia. People are suffering from shortages of food and essential goods. One such organization is the UN World Food Program (WFP), which distribute humanitarian aid in several countries around the globe, including Ukraine. WFP has been able to bring in some emergency food aid that would otherwise go uncollected, but this is cut off by the war and Russia’s economic blockade.
WFP, which has been working in Ukraine for almost 30 years and is the largest humanitarian aid agency in the country, says it cannot operate effectively due to a lack of security. This is because of the continued war between Ukrainian government troops and Russian-backed rebels in the country’s east. Their operations are disrupted by ongoing fighting and Russian trade bans on Ukrainian goods that have left basic foodstuffs impossible to obtain.
If you would like to help Ukraine through this crisis, please consider donating what you can to the WFP to continue their emergency food aid.
As of March, this year, The United States government provides the following assistance to Ukraine. This support is in-line with the efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense and security sector reforms. The U.S. assistance helps Ukraine build defense capacity, address the effects of conflict, and assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable populations throughout the country.
The State Department has also announced that they will provide an additional $5 million in non-lethal assistance (NLTA) to support Ukraine’s efforts to counter Russian aggression.
The NLTA will provide equipment and training for more effective border security capabilities and improve civil society engagement strategies throughout Ukraine. The assistance will also help Ukraine develop and implement a national human rights reform strategy. These reforms, and the adequate reform of Ukraine’s defense and security sector, are critical to the country’s ability to defend itself from Russian aggression. The United States remains committed to assisting Ukraine with stabilization and reform efforts.
